Discovering new music

For me, discovery of new music seems to happen in waves: for a few months I listen to the same stuff, and then I stumble across (or am spoon fed) a new artist, which leads to me discover a few similar artists...and then I ride these new treasures out for a while, content.

I suspect this is a common phenomenon, as the internet becomes a larger factor in taste-making and trend-setting. It's quite easy to find 'related' information about a band, or to read about their influences, so discovery happens in larger 'chunks' of new music.

And then, once you've got a nice-sized chunk of new music to digest, you're content for a while. Eventually you get hungry again and start foraging for something new...
